Chalk-Tique Powder Additive for Paint - 4 oz.

Why buy expensive chalk-style paint when you can make your own! You can use Chalk-Tique Powder Additive and turn your ordinary leftover paint into chalk-style paint that’s easy to use and can adhere to almost any surface. Just add water and then add to your paint, to turn any latex, acrylic, or water based paint into a durable, chalk-style paint. Use Chalk-Tique paint mixture on finished or unfinished (bare) wood, glass, ceramic, laminate, metal, even fabric!

Chalk-Tique Powder gives any water base paint a durable matte finish that can be easily distressed and waxed to create a beautiful antique look. Once Chalk-Tique is added to paint, it will not change the shelf life of the paint - so you can use it again and again! Most pieces require only one coat and no sanding or priming is required.

Each Chalk-Tique Powder Additive contains two (2) cups of powder additive, enough to make two (2) quarts (1/2 gallon) of chalk-style paint.

Make sure surface is free from dirt or dust. If surface is dirty, clean using a damp cloth or Clean-A-Finish. Although the majority of finishes do not require any sanding, some high gloss surfaces will have better paint adhesion if the surface is lightly scuffed with fine grit sandpaper first (always sand in the direction of the wood grain).

IMPORTANT - Mix Chalk-Tique Powder Additive and water thoroughly before adding to paint for a creamy consistency.

Mix Chalk-Tique Powder Additive and water (see ratio chart on jar). Stir thoroughly until creamy. Pour mixture into your paint and mix with a stir stick until smooth. Congratulations, you now have chalk-style paint! The Chalk-Tique Additive will remain mixed with your paint and will not separate.

You are now ready to paint. Paint using either a regular paint brush or foam brush. Let dry (average dry time 3 hours). While a single coat should suffice, depending on the finished look you desire, you may want to “touch-up” or add another coat. We recommend adding a second coat to high-contact surface areas such as kitchen cabinets and drawers. Allow painted surfaces to dry before moving onto the next step.

To Distress: Once the paint is fully dry, use sandpaper to distress. Use coarser grit for a heavily distressed finish or fine grit for a lightly distressed finish. To ensure your piece looks naturally worn, sand corners and edges first. IMPORTANT: Always sand with the wood grain. If you feel you have distressed too much, simply touch up with more Chalk-Tique paint. After you have finished sanding your project, remove all dust and debris. Finish with a coat of Howard Chalk-Tique Dark Paste Wax to slightly darken the paint and bring out the wood grain in sanded areas.

To Protect: If you don't want to change the color of the painted piece but still want to add a protective coating, finish with Howard Chalk-Tique Light Paste Wax.
